Block-Fading Channels at Finite Blocklength

چکیده
This tutorial paper deals with the problem of characterizing the maximal achievable rate R∗(n, ) at a given blocklength n and error probability over block-fading channels. We review recent results that establish tight bounds on R∗(n, ) and characterize its asymptotic behavior. Comparison between the theoretical results and the data rates achievable with the coding scheme used in LTE-Advanced are reported.

Diversity versus Channel Knowledge at Finite Block- Length Citation
We study the maximal achievable rate R∗(n, ) for a given block-length n and block error probability over Rayleigh block-fading channels in the noncoherent setting and in the finite block-length regime. Our results show that for a given blocklength and error probability, R∗(n, ) is not monotonic in the channel’s coherence time, but there exists a rate maximizing coherence time that optimally tra...
متن کاملOn Single-Antenna Rayleigh Block-Fading Channels at Finite Blocklength
This paper concerns the maximum coding rate at which data can be transmitted over a noncoherent, singleantenna, Rayleigh block-fading channel using an error-correcting code of a given blocklength with a block-error probability not exceeding a given value. A high-SNR normal approximation of the maximum coding rate is presented that becomes accurate as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the numb...
متن کاملCoherent multiple-antenna block-fading channels at finite blocklength
In this paper we consider a channel model that is often used to describe the mobile wireless scenario: multipleantenna additive white Gaussian noise channels subject to random (fading) gain with full channel state information at the receiver. Dynamics of the fading process are approximated by a piecewise-constant process (frequency non-selective isotropic block fading). This work addresses the ...
متن کاملFinite Blocklength Rates over a Fading Channel with CSIT and CSIR
In this work, we obtain lower and upper bounds on the maximal transmission rate at a given codeword length n, average probability of error and power constraint P̄ , over a block fading additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter and the receiver. These bounds characterize deviation of the finite blocklength coding rates from the channel ca...
متن کاملFading Channels: Capacity and Channel Coding Rate in the Finite-Blocklength Regime
Information-theoretic studies on the fundamental limits of communication over wireless fading channels typically rely on simplifying assumptions, such as perfect channel state information (CSI), infinite blocklength, and vanishing probability of error. Although these assumptions are reasonable for most of the current wireless communication systems, they may be inaccurate for next-generation wir...
